Scavanger for Petenia Splendida tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if they can fit in thier bucket mouths, wouldn't try it. other than that, my red hooks get along with just about any other fish. i'd say any fish long as half the length or tall as line from top of eyes to bottom of gill plate on red hook is safe.

There are other, larger types of Synodontis as well.

Ok, so I did some additional research. Hoplos that I plan on getting are not the same species comonly found at LFS. Common viriety maxes out at 3". These appear to be Hoplosternum littorale, and accoring to Planet Catfish grow to 8.5". To compare, Synodontis Eupterus also get to about 8-8.5". Ofcourse synos have that high dorsal fin with a spike giving them a taller profile...

I've kept Petenia Splendidas before and are aware of what they are capable of swallowing. I just can't imagine one gulping down an 8" fish. If it possible however, I would probably not want to take the risk. What do you think?

Got another idea... How about a group of 4-5 4 line pims (Pimelodus blochii)? They grow to about 10" and so should be safe, right? Only thing is, I hear they are fin nippers... What do you think?

Featherfin catfish best scavenger i have had. As soon as i feed my oscar the featherfin comes out and cleans every every bit of scrap there is.

Thanks but I really want some opinions on using smaller species of pimelodus for clean-up purposes. Anyone?

4 line pim would probably work, you might just have to grow him out a little, i got a 9 incher with a mean jd and hes never nipped fins but will hold his own when the jd stirs it up, does good cleanin on the night shift also
