ours was super aggro. king of his 220 gal tank. any fish that were there when he was 5 or 6 inch were ok later. all newcomers were killed instantly, some while still floating in the bag to acclimate. might have been ok in a larger tank with more cover and visual barriers.

ok i have a 12" male and a 6" female in seperate tanks and they both rule their tanks !
the main thing to realise is that they are seriously territorial fish and can deal some nasty damage when the mood takes them. i now only house them with large fast fish that can dodge the attacks and the only cichlid i am willing to put in my tank with the male is my female red terror as hes taken a shine to her !
im sure all bb are different in agression but just bear in mind that a placid bb for 6 months can turn in an instance and demolish 2 x 13" oscars and a large lemon fin barb in 6 hours overnight, which is exactly what mine did !
hope it works out for you but wanted to share my experience as i lost 3 fantastic fish and i dont want anyone else having the same happen to them !
ps IMO they are nothing like oscars ! oscars will hold their ground until rank is obtained, BB will cahse and nip until the fish hides or is done

Mine was very aggressive; it used to fight with one of my freddies. When they lip locked most of the freddy's teeth were bent or broken and the black belt was almost untouched.
Yeah he was terrorizing my whole tank after 3 days...decided to trade him in for a nice little Sevrum.
sad, theres a huge one at a LFS round here...stuck in that tiny tank. I would love him if I had the room, I did not know that they could get to be around a foot til I saw him. Sad to see them so cramped up. Damn wish I coulda gotten it
