what species of fish is this thread really about?

most schoolers need 5-6 minimum. 3 just wont cut it, unless you are talking about silver dollars. 3 is fine for them, but everything else needs atleast 5. 1 or 2 is, in a way, mean.

originally clown loaches and silver dollars but they're off my list since i can't get 3.

oh and those species that become solitary when older but school while young.
what should i do?
can i keep my new baby pacu alone or will he need a buddy?
i only got one since the thought of feeding/keeping 2 giants was over-whelming

Pacus are schoolers in nature. Better yet, don't keep them long-term unless you can really accommodate their needs.
