Hey,

After recently giving Harlequin Rasbora's a test in my tank, I've realized no place up here stocks them large enough to go straight into my tank without getting eaten overnight.

Can anyone recommend through theory or experience, a smaller schooling fish that I can get 3-6 (or higher, up to 10 if its recommended) to go into a 42Gal 3 foot (temporary).

Current residents are a 6cm Blue Acara, 5cm Green Severum, and a 3cm Firemouth.

Basically I'm after something quick and active to liven up the tank a little. Something with the same characteristics of Tiger Barbs, not not Tiger Barbs (I'm not a fan).

Cheers.

id go with some small silver $

Silver Dollars will double the size of my Blue Acara and Firemouth, though. Looking for something small, quick, and preferably reasonably smart.

2-3inch maximum I'd say.

Just go to your lfs and look around. There's all types of schooling barbs and tetra type fish that fit your description. Find some you like and bag them up.

Exactly what I did with the Rasbora's and they didn't quite work out. =)

Hoping for someone with experience with these style of fish in Cichlid tanks to give their input.

Rasbora's are tiny. Are you telling me your lfs doesn't have anything that's already in the 2" size range? Come on, you've got to be kidding. Try a different store.

You could try giant danios? They swim pretty quick don't get that big.

Rasbora's are indeed tiny but grow to 2", the ideal size for what I'm looking for. Turned out the Blue Acara I bought from a different LFS that day was quite the killer. Admittedly I'd still get the Rasbora's because I think they're a great looking fish, but theres no other place here that stocks them at a reasonably size.

Giant Danio's get a little large for what I'm looking for.

Anyone had experience with Black Skirt Tetra's in these kinds of tanks?

Could go with Hyphessobrycon eques, if you can find them. They're kind of high-bodied, so they won't be eaten as easily.

Thing is, he's in Austrailia and we're in the U.S. We don't know what kind of dithers the lfs' stock there...it may be a bit different. I KNOW that there must be a dozen+ tanks there though with different barbs, tetras, characins etc. Just go look around and find something. We could list out different ones and you might not find that paticular species. Here's a few ideas:

That should get you started. Good luck.
