What size were they? You could try redhooks which may have a better chance of survival.

red hook silver dollars my friend they grow fast and eat like true monsters, give my jar competition for food in their own mini monsterish way LOL

and i did read someones post about red hooks living for 12 years or so and he gave them away after 12 years and at 7" or so

he even had pics
