I recommend Melanotaenia lacustris. very good looking and they always swim together.

:hearts: They get much more colorful as they get older. For best color, make sure you have at least 1 female for every male.

:iagree:

I'm really happy with the combo of Rainbows, G Danios and some Black barred minnows in my 150...they school well with my XL RH's, 10" Uaru, 8+" Sevs and CL's.

In fact some of the smaller fish are close to 3" w/o counting tails.....
BTW Pics are not mine they are too active for me to get a good photo..

2 or 3 different species of small schooling fish

Dollars = not small. Not at all.

thanks for all the suggestions, there are some good choices. now if i were to do 3 schools, say tiger barbs, congo tetras, and rainbows, how big could i make each school in my 180 without going overboard? tamkmates are 2 blood parrots, gibby pleco, and giraffe cat.

Rainbows are variable in size, some species get to about 2" (praecox, kamaka), and some grow to about 6" (incisus, trifasciata). The lacustris already mentioned max out at about 4" and they are one of the more readily available species. I wouldn't get less than 6 of any species, and the more you have, the more they school.
