ive got an 80gal sa/ca tank and im going 2 take a cichlid out and add a school. i have tiger barbs in another tank so id rather get something else and i got rid of giant danios so there out too. tinfoils are too big and id only have room for about 3-4 sand dollars so there out too. i really like odessa barbs but there kinda hard to find.... what else is a good schooling fish i could get? obviously little tetras wouldnt work and cherry barbs are useless

What else will be in the tank?

they have tons of different barbs just find a species u like and yes u definitely need to tell us what else is gonna be in the tank

i really like serpae tetras and with their higher bodies they are usually safe as long as the cichlid in with them doesnt have too large a mouth or is a eater but yeah we would need to know whats going to be in the tank with them to give better suggestions

i gotta dempsey salvini severum and leporinius and royal acara.....

i would not add anything actually that tank is already more than full once all these guys are grown and dempsey will most likely eat any smaller schooling tetras

barbs would be your best bet IMO but only if u plan to upgrade ur tank or get rid of a few cichlids bc any barb woould need to be in a group of about 4-6 for them to share the attacks from the cichlids and u definitely need a bigger tank for a school of cichlids

First of all, there are too many potentially-large cichlids in the tank. The jd will get pretty big (10"), the sev will get big (10" or more), the salvini will get big if it's a male (10-11"), the leporinius can get to 12".

Answering your question, however, you might consider Buenos Aires Tetras. Decent size, look pretty good, and are fast.

This. I have a 90 with a jd, gt, midas, con and firemouth. How does this tank work? Two reasons. 1) all fish are between 3-5 inches and 2) they will be moving into a 300 gallon in about a month.

My jack dempsey took out 11 tiger barbs in this tank not that long ago. he was about 3.5' when he started.

The only thing id add is a bigger tank. just my opinion
