John what species of cichla will survive the FL winter?

none, unless you live in miami, and even there most will die except the florida hybrids. Reason is Miami is tropical, sw florida is not. We are sub tropical

john you ever think about putting a green house over the pond during winter my local fish farm who farms peacock bass got a killer deal on one from a going out of business tree farm ..it stays really warm in his even in winter.it looks like this not one of those house looking ones

Ya...jump on it. thats what I wanna do in ca. A pond in a green house w/ bannana plants in it and all that good stuff. Would be dope!

This pond is far to big to be covered with a green house. It is 2.5 acers

good point john...that would be a spendy greenhouse. u ever think of making a smallr covered pond for the winter?

I wish I could of made a baby peacock thread this season Next season I will have a detailed thread specially made just to be stickied For breeding cichla occellaris and raising their young.

Oh, and their are new additions to the lake now

(4) pairs of amia calva 20"+
(6) 4-5 ft longnose gar
(6-7) Esox niger 20"+
(4) SAL 30"-40" with pirahana bit tails
