I recently purchased a schoutedeni puffer and love the little guy however it's only eating bloodworms and black worms. Any suggestions on how I can get it to eat clams on the half shell or shrimp. I've tried leaving both in some defrosting bloodworms so it would pick up the scent but still no luck. Thanks in advance!

Feed it some snails. I feed mine krill. I started it on krill using tweezers and it took right to eating it. I alternate snails, krill, and extra large mysis shrimp with mine.

Normally to entice a puffer to try new foods i would soak the food in something similar to Ken’s garlic juice... the smell normally makes a puffer at least want to take a bite to try it out...

I’ve actually tried to soak it in seachem garlic guard but didn’t even look at it.

Hmmmmmm... in that case, the only other way i can think of is to pull the meat off the shell, grab a pair of tweezers or something similar then dangle / jiggle the food infront of your puffer to try and entice them to try pecking at it, as if it were alive...

That's what I did. Then once it tried it it realized this is good and I didn't have to do it again. You just need to get the puffer to trust the tweezers. Try feeding it blood worms with the tweezers first.

Agreed with the above, once they learn tweezers = food delivery device, you’ll have a hard time using them for anything else within the tank lol

Hey ! I had the same issue with mine. She would only eat snails and bloodworms. So the best method I have found doesn’t sound the best, but it works. I didn’t feed mine for 2 days and then tried shrimp, it worked very well. I was also told they can go about a week without eating. Hope this helps ??
