sciatica

Sciatic pain is horrible. I was down for a month. Yes 4 wks. Nothing over the counter seemed to help. The only relief and it was temporary came from my recliner except I had to sit straight up. Constant pain.....
Sorry man but but have some faith it will go away.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you all are having....makes my problem seem like nothing in comparison.

I feel your pain. I've had sciatica since I was 15. Not fun. Not fun at all.

I love it (sarcasm) when the docs tell you to strengthen your abdominal muscles. I don't know about you, but any type of "crunch" movement is the last thing I want to do when my sciatica is acting up...it only aggravates it.

Hang in there...

the last time i was out on disability for 6 months. it was the first time i experienced it. it was scary. ambulance rides in the middle of the night, my ass, thigh, calves cramping uncontrolably. morphine pills. it was bad. this time its been 3 weeks so far and i seem to be getting beter. i dont want to push it. ive been taking my meds and got some shots for steroid and inflam. last time my legs swelled more than double the normal size. fluid would go down but couldnt come back up. it would seep out my pores and looked like i had chicken pox. it was crazy!

it's important that you understand, sciatica may come & go, yet the entire time length from original onset until impingement repair can determine how long it takes to reach maximum possible extent of recovery from nerve damage.
In other words: mine used to come & go. because it would GO during times, I tolerated it, never thinking of irreparable damage. but eventually it came more than went, & eventually became suddenly constant.
the rule of thumb for predicting the time needed for max extent of recovery is: how long ago did it start, 1 yr, 5 yrs?
After the impingement is stopped, your pain or damage will achieve max possible relief after that same length of time has passed.

I still have PITA down to my hip, and have to concentrate on one front of foot 'lift', especially on the slightest uneven terrain.
Azz pain flairs from average necessary actions.
So my point is, think about the risks of waiting to seek fixing.

I liked physical work my whole life & hate the repercussions I have now... they are my own stubborn fault.
Pain hits from picking up grandkids, cleaning, caring for my horse. and even simple bending over to buff acrylic tanks- which I consider a very minimum chore.
sometimes I don't even know why.
I was always thin, but lifestyle changes hit that too :p

hope you get better and feel better soon.

i never in my life had any back problems. then about 3 years ago i pulled a muscle. after that the sciatic nerve thing started. took 6 months of hell and i mean hell but i felt i was 100%. i went back to work, and its been 2 years since i felt anything at all. then bam the pain came. i think im going to have another mri done and see if it has gotten worse, stayed the same and just irritated it. i dont want surgery, but like you said i dont want to cause serious damage. i am an overweight guy. looks like time for me to start surfing again. losing 100 lbs would for sure help the sciatica
