Score! Craigslist tank find! PIC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice find. Older tanks used thicker glass and no cross bracing. Now it's cheaper to manufacture the plastic top and bottom frames with the bracing in them rather than have the glass reinforcement.

Man I thought I got a good deal - a 125G 2x Fluval404, Stand,canopy,protein skimmer,2 strip lights, overflow and a bunch of misc stuff for $400.

I check Craigslist everyday...soon I will have 50 tanks.

GG!!

That is a good deal.

This ad is stupid: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/for/203786110.html

New 135 gallons are 250. 10 gallons are 15 bucks. They must be high. I wouldnt pay more than a dollar a gallon for a used tank.

Just a little update about the tank frame and support. I talked to a guy at a great fish store in my area. He said that if the fram edges are not routered (sp), it never had a center cross support.

I went home and looked at the frame and it is all one piece. Very thick compared to the frame of a 125/150. Looks like I wont need the center support. I finished scraping out the old silicone last night. I will seal it this weekend and then test it next week sometime.

Tanks that are made of 3/4" glass in that size do not have center supports. They are made for commercial type setups. Heavy as hell, but very strong. Check the glass thickness to be sure. Nice score!

Yep it is 3/4 inch glass. It is friggin heavy! My basement stairway has a 180 degree turn too. That was not fun at all.
