I can use some of that or some patch master,

good to see! we got some bags of that to use in our back yard, but need to improve sprinkler system.
did you work it into the dirt at all, or just throw on top?

I just raked up the dead grass then loosened the dirt with the rake, then lay it down on top without mixing it in to the old dirt. You gotta keep it watered pretty good. If it's light brown, you know it needs water. My brother tried the stuff to but it didn't grow for him because he didn't keep it most enough.

One problem I always have when laying new seed is the birds coming down and eating it all.

does that stay in place when watered better than plain seed? there can be a fine line between just keeping seed moist, and water moving it all around. that's why I've been waiting for automatic sprinklers
:-/

krich, that can be a problem too. we get flocks of dove and quail. maybe they won't like this coated stuff?

Hopefully not,I'm going to try it.

It stays in place pretty good. When you water it, it expands and kinda holds everything together. There were a couple times when I accidentally left the sprinkler on for a long time because I forgot about it, but no harm was done. That being said, you really just need to water it momentarily until it turns dark brown again.

I've used this stuff in the past and some times its great some times its terrible. For me the best method is rake dead grass, add thin layer of top soil, add seed, cover in thin layer of top soil. For years I used Scott's fertilizers as well and had a nice lawn until one day I wanted to fertilize and I can go to my local landscape center plus apply the fertilizer in the time it takes just to go to a big box store for Scott's so I hit up the local shop and the carry fertilome, and from that day on I will never use Scott's again. Prices are comparable, I own a paired home so I buy the small bags (2, 000sq ft I think) and it is less than $5 a bag difference.
