Well, after much regret at giving away my prized GT a while back; I'm going to jump back in and get myself a juvenile for my 55, might try and pick one up tomorrow if possible, and will provide updates soon!

Whoooo, best of luck in getting a nice one.

If it is going to be a wet pet, would it be worth waiting a little longer and buying a higher quality wild caught/f1 one?

That's a good point, I've never actually consciously sought out wild caught fish before :)
have you? If so do you do it through private collectors?

My usual supplier has informed me he has a group of 3 inch specimens, so I may even toy with the idea of a breeding pair if possible :)

So why did you give yours away in the first place ?

Cause I'm a moron. The reason at the time was that it hit 5/6 inches and proceeded to nearly kill the rest of my stock, in hindsight though; it had fantastic colouration, size and personality, that trumps a community set-up imo.

Gave it to a friend, where it did well until killed by an Oscar (surprising); one of my biggest regrets in the hobby thus far.

I haven't personally, but that is mainly because I live in a country where sourcing a fish from outside the country is not doable for the normal fish keepers.

It would probably be easiest to see if any trusted companies around where you are have them for sale and will ship, as specialist retailers often have nice fish then your local store gets in.

I wish mine was that colorful, and fiesty. It's about as aggressive as a swordtail or platy.

Can def see why you regret getting rid of your last one he woulda grown up into a stunner, good choice in getting another one, best lookin cichlid around far as I'm concerned. Good luck finding a new friend. I eventually wanna breed mine but just waiting for him to get to a decent size first before I put a female anywhere near him.

I can definitely relate to the feeling of regret after getting rid of an awesome fish. Your old GT above was sublime. I also agree with monkeybike- I've kept Gold Saums that were feisty and personable, however I've also keep some that were shy and introverted. I know that Rapps carries really nice ones from time to time (usually around 4-6"). Best of luck!
