Scrubbies. Cheap, easy to find, and they work great.

so it does bio and mech filtration?

its used more to house beneficial bacteria, but obviously if you dont have a pre-filter, it will get dirty, which isnt really a problem if you have enough to do the job if you clean the dirty ones

Filter Floss Seems to work really good two, and a whole lot cheaper then Carbon inserts. My 2 pennies:headbang2

You would be better of buying AC110 sponges and cutting them to fit in your emps or penguins. The sponges will do a much better job trapping particulate waste then the "scrubbies" and if you rinse the sponges clean in warm tap water to remove all waste particles, you will actually be helping keep your nitrAte levels lower.

yes those be them. Once you get them you can clean and reuse them for a long time. Try to sut them so they fit snug, but don't compress them by jamming them in, this will make them less effective.
