Sea Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ohh...
Kept them in no higher than 1.010, with a pH of about 8. I've kept them twice before.
In my experience, they are not too difficult to keep in the proper salinity. Unfussy, and will accept most foods eventually. Not too sensitive to water params, but not invincible either. They are predatory, though pretty peaceful alongside fish too large to be eaten. They are also pretty fast growers. A standard 55G will do a group of 3 or so well for a couple of months, but at full size, you should be looking at 100G or more for a group. Definitely schoolers.

I would also advise caution against keeping them with aggressive fish like puffers and morays-- unless they are very well-fed, you'll likely start to see some bite marks on your sharks sooner or later
Thank you for this. Were they in the 1.010 water their whole time with you? How long had you had them each time and what happened to them?

Yes.

The first three lasted a little short of a year. The second three I kept for, I wanna say 1.5-1.75 years?
and what happened to them?
As for the first three, I had upgrade plans in mind, but they didn't properly come to fruition, and I had to give the sharks to an LFS, as I didn't have a tank with the proper conditions at the time that could house them as adults. I'm assuming they've been sold by now, it's been a while. They could even be alive today. Who knows. As for the second trio, which I had up until early last year, one of them mysteriously disappeared, and since I wanted a little more room in my tank, I gave the other two to a friend who was getting back into the hobby. May keep them again sometime soon... But IDK, just a possibility.

Not sure totally sure if those last two are still alive or not ☹
