Im starting to get into plants and wanted to dose with flourish and excel. The directions say once or twice a week for flourish.

For excel it says every day to every other day.

Do i really need to dose the excel that much ?

Can i dose both together ?

Nothing fancy anubis nana , java fern, java moss, and amazon sword

For the swords you'll need root tabs, not liquid fertilizers. They're heavy root feeders. I used to use Seachem's, now I just make my own with osmocote flower and vegetable and miracle gro fruit and vegetable mixed into little gel capsules. For me to make about 1000 costs $15.

You can dose both of your products together. I think with your plant list though you shouldn't have to do it that often. I never used liquid fertilizers when I just had Anubias in the tank and they took off.

i just started the same thing as you. Ive been dousing with the flourish every other day for about a week . and the excel just the once a week so far. It seems like a lot of money will be spent if I double douse like it says.

However , I have noticed anubias sprouting new leaves , Amazon Frogbit growing , Bacopa growing , Rotala growing EXCEPT ive noticed my Jungle Vals melting . Which apparently happens to them when replanted in new aquariums... I don't know . . to be honest Im not a fan of Jungle val. If it continues i may just toss it.

Over dose Flourish can cause some plants melting so I would stick with 1 time a week for your current stock, I would replace excel with trace element and dose flourish+Trace Element 1 a week with light planted tank and 2x a week with heavy planted tank.
*Every plants get bonus with liquid fertilizer even they can grow without it...it's always better than nothing :D

You'll get better results from a co2 diffuser than with excel. Excel can be kind of rough on some plants too.
I have no complaints about flourish.

You don't need excel for java ferns. That's for sure. A friend of mine grew about 20 Java ferns out in plastic cups in his closet.

Excel should be used in half dose in my opinion. Do a google search for the active ingredient. It's main purpose is for sterilizing surgical equipment. Some fish and plants find it toxic. Mainly vals, ferns and mosses.
