is it possible to use small amounts of marine buffer in a freshwater tank to boost the pH? i went to about 5 lfs and the only one that i knew had what i needed was without power because of the ice. the closest i could find was the marine buffer and i need to raise the pH some. anyone have any experience or input?

You can use it, but this could cause some pH instability which is stressful for the fish. Be careful.

Kents cichlid buffer. I use it works great. I use it for freshwater, for my CA/SA tanks, I just under dose it so I don't get the water too hard. Play with it a bit until you can find the pH you are looking for. I would also recommend using it with RO water instead, that way you get a better starting point.
