Sounds like a personal problem to me. I don't use seachem but Amquel basically claims the same and does the same thing(and it does help in the case of not really cycled tank).

That depends. If you have chlormines in your tap water, then you'll get all kinds of screwy results. Chloramine is different from chlorine. It's a chlorine + ammonia bond. When you test your tap water, your cheap-o test kit may give you an ammonia reading, even though it's in different form than what we'd see in an un-cycled tank. When you do a water change with water that has chloramines and then add Prime, Prime will break the chlorine + ammonia bond, then neutralize the chlorine and detoxify the newly freed ammonia.
That's the nice thing about Prime; it breaks the chlorine + ammonia bond that makes up chloramines, then takes care of the resulting chlorine and ammonia. Other water conditioners don't, and only break the bond and neutralize the chlorine. The ammonia is left in the water. While the ammonia is most likely a small amount that can be easily handled by your filter, it's still a nice peace of mind to use Prime, which takes care of the ammonia.
If you have a basic understand of water chemistry in aquariums, you'll see that Prime is a great product.
Acting like a radical while trying to get people to believe in your idea doesn't do much for the cause.... It just makes you look crazy. I use prime, and more recently because I found a great deal on a gallon, Amquel. If I scientifically evaluated everything I put into my aquarium, this hobby wouldn't be very fun. If you want to show me some evidence that prime is harmful to my fish, I will gladly listen, but coming on here claiming that you've "exposed seachem" because they use layman terms on their website just makes you look like a loony toon.
Prime only detoxifying the ammonia and not removing it from the water is new news?.... Properly cycle your tank and you won't have to worry about it. Saying "if your tank isn't properly cycled your screwed" is a silly statement considering prime isn't a product for cycling a tank. The product prime isn't intended to aid you with cycling a tank in any way.
unless the OP wants to craft a method of detoxifying water before placing it into the aquarium- such as having a large stock of drums, bins, etc... that hold around 50 gal of water each, each being connected together in a water system and being established bacteria asylums away from the tank for use purely on water changes.... just stick to the safestart, prime, amquel. the chemical nullifies ammonia's toxicity on fish, and introduces comatose/suspended bb into your tank. I super cycled my tank a month ago in around 9 days using stability and prime. I cant understand what is so dysfunctional about it iyo. the advertising? doesnt matter man.
The bottle of purigen in front of me states "purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds." It never claims removes ammonia.
If the ammonia is converted to a different form which is not harmful to fish, isn't the original ammonia in essence removed? What do you expect it to do, a water change? People support Seachem because they make quality products and have good customer service. Any 9/11 attack or JFK assassination theories while you're at it?
I've tested most of the water conditioners on the market over the years on chloramine treated tap water, and Seachem products (both Safe & Prime) work exactly as they are supposed to. They "remove" chlorine by by first breaking the chlorine/ammonia bond, then converting it to harmless chloride; the ammonia is then converted to a safe harmless form until it is utilized by ones biological filtration.
Seachem sells one of the few test kits that are not affected by water conditioners when testing for free ammonia. (NH3) Their test kits use a gas exchange sensor technology that is not affected by ammonia removal products, and according to the numerous tests that I have performed over the years on our local chloramine treated water (2 mg/l of chloramine) the free ammonia removal (dare I use that term) by Seachem Prime and/or Seachem Safe is pretty much instantaneous.
Over the years I have corresponded a number of times with Dr. Greg Morin, the President/CEO of Seachem, and always found him to be a very honest straight shooter, even once when I spotted a major SNAFU on their labels. He could have just BS'd me, and he didnt'. I have nothing but respect for the man and the many great products that his late father & himself have brought to this hobby.
