Sounds like a personal problem to me. I don't use seachem but Amquel basically claims the same and does the same thing(and it does help in the case of not really cycled tank).

If you use your test kit after using prime I bet it comes back zero, so is the ammonia really still there?
Prime only detoxifying the ammonia and not removing it from the water is new news?.... Properly cycle your tank and you won't have to worry about it. Saying "if your tank isn't properly cycled your screwed" is a silly statement considering prime isn't a product for cycling a tank. The product prime isn't intended to aid you with cycling a tank in any way.
