it takes up to 8 hours for the chloramine/chlorine to be neutralized fully.

Actually, I'm looking at my bottle right now and it says:

^^^Which is actually pretty accurate, though I do disagree with them when they say "...but better if added to new water first...," ime you get the same results either way. And it really doesn't specify when to treat the water, but other than that I don't see anything wrong with their instructions.. You just have to read past the first couple sentences. ;)
If you add it to new water first, you don't waste as much prime. You are dosing the actual volume being added, not total volume of tank.

Not true. With a chlorine test you can see the effects of sodium thiosulfate. As to how fast exactly, I do not know, but it is faster than I can complete the testing procedure.

What I would say is killing your plecos is a combination of things, although some factors have been left out that could also affect this. The things killing them, is a high stress situation (water changes, low O2, high temp), O2 levels possibly being too low, and temperature being too high. What specific species of pleco have you lost?

yeah why do you have the temp that high anyways? and yeah i use a python and prime and i haven't ever had an issue with any fish (though i have only recently started keeping plecos) but yeah i do weekly 50% changes and dose the tank with prime before adding the new water and i dose enough for the entire volume of the tank, and i hold the python hose above the water so that the new water falls into the tank and has lots of surface agitation as it goes in

Yeah, I always heard that prime (and any other product with sodium thiosulfate as the neutralizer) works almost immediately. I just wanted to know where he got his information from.

As would I.

unfortunately, we now have a thread with a horribly incorrect title that is trashing a perfectly good product . . .
