Am I missing something or what????? I’m not quite sure how to use Seachem Safe. I have a 210 fish tank (72x24x29) and an eshopps 300 WD (36x14x16) how much dosage of safe should I use and is it okay to dump straight into fish tank after a water change.

Does it make a difference that I have about 20 gallons of water in my sump system making my tank a 230 Gallon????

Hope this will helphttps://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...dosage-tanks-and-purigen.605133/#post-7113542

For your tank, I would dump in a little less than 1/4 tsp BEFORE adding the new water. This is what I do on my 220 that has a 55 gallon sump.

No one can tell you the quantity of Safe you should be using, unless they know your tap water parameters, as in chlorine or chloramine, and at what ppm residual.

Read the link that tlindsey posted, and the sticky I have on this subject.

Reactions: dr exum
Directions for 10 g and 50 g

To remove…

Chlorine: use 1 measure to each 130 L (35 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm)..
Chloramine: use 1 measure to each 100 L (25 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm).
Ammonia: use 1 measure to each 32 L (8 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm). Do not overdose!*

For reference, 1 measure = 100 mg. To detoxify nitrite/nitrate in an emergency situation use up to 5 measures to each 40 L (10 gallons). Use fish to gauge toxicity reduction as test kits will still show presence of nitrite/nitrate even when detoxified. May be added to aquarium directly, but is better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. If temperature is > 30 C (86 F) cut dosing in half.

Directions for 250 g and larger

To remove…

Chlorine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1625 L (450 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Chloramine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1250 L (300 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Ammonia: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 400 L (100 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm). Do not overdose!

So @ 2 ppm chloramine (my tap water value year round) I can treat a total of 526,400 gallons with a 4KG container of Seachem Safe.

Once you know your local water disinfectant residual, simply crunch the numbers based off the info above. Easy peasy, but impossible without having a starting reference point for chlorine, or chloramine.

I’ve been doing research and I’m still confused.

My chlorine ranges from 0.0-2.2 and the highest is 4.

I couldn’t find my chloramine levels.

-my tank is 210 gallons.

Your average is 0.6 chlorine, with 2.2 being at the high end of the range. Personally I would treat for the high end of the range all the time. (2 ppm) So follow this:

Directions for 250 g and larger

To remove…

Chlorine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1625 L (450 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).

So using that formula, 1/2 tsp would treat 225 gallons @ 4 ppm chlorine. You would be treating for 2 ppm chlorine, so you would need a half dose, or approx 1/4 tsp for 225 gallons. With your chlorine residuals (average 0.6 ppm) anything between 1/8 tsp - 1/4 tsp would probably be just fine. Buy some kitchen cooking measuring spoons at the dollar store, and add the Safe just before you fill, or a little as you fill the tank with tap water until the entire measured dose is added to the tank.

Okay so every water change I should add 1/4 tsp of SAFE and I should be safe! ;) No need to add more or less. Every single water change I should add 1/4 tsp.

I would dose the amount needed for the higher range for your chlorine/chloramine levels. It is safer to overdose than to under-dose. Personally, I dump the powder into the tank just before I start filling, the lot I need for the entire tank.
