Seachem Stability: PUT TO THE TEST/blank slate (daily perams/pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just an update because this is real world testing and I am holding nothing back. Prior to changing my gravel, my ammonia and nitrite levels were at 0 so I was not overstocked and my filters were handling it and working properly. When I changed my gravel to another kind, my ammonia level went up and that is when I added the stability. Well the first dose of stability was at night on 5/28. Today is 6/3. Sad to say, that my ammonia is at 2 and my nitrite is at 0.25. By this day, I thought my water would be better.

this is all great info, i have a 180 gallong fish tank, with a 2'' diy pvc a 20 gallon sump with 5 gallon bio balls and a pump thats 1550 gph plan on keeping a black paranh in their, i will start the Seachem Stability on mon and see what happens, really great info on this site, i must say just researching on this site i have learned alot, thanks to all, i will keep you guys posted

Were you using the gravel as UGF or RUGF? What other filters are you using? 2.0ppm ammonia is too high. Big water changes need to happen right away. As we ask with everyone are you being violent when shakinmg the bottle? When I switching from gravel to sand years back I never got an ammo spike that high. If ya like, PM your number and we can try and narrow it down since I have been traveling and haven't been able to check this thread often. ;)

Right on, glad it was helpful. ;) your setup sounds like it will be a cool one. Just make sure if the setup is new your adding fish at the same time (amount of fish within reason) or the stability is useless. The bacterial spores need a food source to cultivate.

I have a Rena xp3, aquaclear HOB 110, and a UGF with powerheads. It is a 80 gallon tank. As I said before, prior to changing the gravel, the filters handled the bio load and my water parameters were acceptable. Currently, the ammonia is still at 2. In conclusion, I do not think the stability is working as fast as I want it to.

Bingo :) you had the tank on UGF with powerhead which was likely 90% of your bio. It came in contact with waste significantly sooner than you other filters so the other filters likely did not have much of a bacterial colony established. If you think the stability is not working soon enough, bump up the dosage. It cannot hurt anything and there is no overdosing a tank. You may get a bacterial bloom but since your essencially re-cycling the tank, odds are good you may get one from that process naturaly anyway. Double up and keep us posted. ;)

Perfect ;) especially in a 180. You should be able to feed every other day or even daily with a small bioload like that. Keep a sharp eye on your perams, that will be the indicator.

ok guys just whent to the store and brought me you know what to start my cycle

and this is where i'm planing to put my lil babies (red belly piranhs) in the 180 gallon tank

now the Q is before i put the seachem stability in, you guys where talking about some food that the BB needs, what do i put in? or do i just pour the 1 capful for each 10 gallons on the 1st day, then the next day pour my 2nd dose then after that i put my fishes in and continue the dosage

Day 1, make sure the temp is where you want it. (warmer temp speeds cycle time FYI) add the fish, add the first dose. Continue along with the instructions from there... The food source, is the waste from the fish.
