Anybody have any ideas or experiences in this area? I have about a 10'x6' length and about a 2ft deep outdoor concrete pond. It has an unknown leak that I can't find to seal. I'm thinking it might be best to just dry it and seal it with something but I'm not sure what to use... I have heard of Sanit red or something like that but I have read mixed reviews on this and don't really know if it will work to seal concrete? Any ideas would be great?

thanks,
Jake

hi
i find the leak (u may try with saw dust maybe, take some in a glass and slowly pass it everywhere and look where the saw dust get sucked)
then
make a bigger hole with a grinder
introduce concrete with very thin sand or
epoxy putty then concrete on that.

How big a leak?

You can use food coloring at any suspicious area to see if it's drawn in (providing the water is clear enough to see into ;)).

Was the pond ever sealed?

If so, with what?

If previously sealed you'll need something compatible.

SaniTred http://www.sanitred.com/WaterFountain.htm will work but talk to the company and be very specific with the size and surface quality/texture (it's a type of liquid rubber). It can also be patched as it bonds to itself.

PondArmor http://www.pondarmor.com/ is another sealer and actually signed on here for a bit to offer suggestions (do a search on member pondarmor).

What ever you decide to use, contact the manufacturer with your specifics to get the final answers as their are the ones guaranteeing the product not us.

Also some of these can be tinted.

Keep us posted on what you find,

Thanks for the info! It has never been sealed before. I found some cracks in the side that I already patched up with an epoxy putty... The leak seems to be below them now... I just can't seem to find the leak so I just want to seal the whole thing and cross my fingers that it doesn't leak any more.

Drylock is the cheapest to try.

Drylok works good, but the only thing i dont like is that it comes in white, and tinting it can only make it a light grey or blue color. you cant really get it darker.

on the concrete ponds ive built, i always seal them with Plastic Cement mixed with sand (1 part Plastic Cement : 3 parts sand). If you read what it says on the bag of plastic cement, it says thats its for fish ponds and waterfalls. its worked for me for several years with no leaks

sometimes if the leaks are very minute they will seal them selves u with detritus and other things. but if the pon n ever did get sealed then you do need to seal it.

Well, there is a way that has always worked for me.Use a paintbrush to evenly spread a thin layer of sealant over the concrete. Be sure to wear gloves and a face mask when doing so, as sealant fumes can be dangerous and the chemical is an irritant when it comes into contact with skin.Wait until the layer of sealant has dried, and then apply another coat. Repeat this step once more until you have three coats of sealant on the concrete.Refill the pond, and return any plants or fish to it.
