Has anyone used bag sealing pliers or hog ring pliers for packing fish for shipping? I know of the pneumatic units that many stores use but I'm looking for something handheld since I won't be shipping much. I just want to make sure that I can keep the bags from leaking at the openings.

I actually picked some up yesterday but wasn't quite satisfied with them. I'm thinking about using a bag sealing stapler like the ones used for sausage casings but I'm not sure if they are thick enough and won't tear the bag.
I would advise against that, especially if you’re gonna ship air freight. The pressure changes make the bags expand and contract. A flimsy metal clip could either pop off altogether or tear the bag as the pressures change. Elastic is your friend
That's exactly what concerns me. When I was a lot younger and worked in a store, we got all sorts of things flown in that had the metal bands/staples/whatever you want to call them. What I've seen is either too flimsy in my opinion or too pointy so I'm on the hunt for something like I've seen. There is a store local that uses something but I'm not looking to spend over $1,000 on something that will be used sporadically.
