Hi all,

I want to seal the bottom of my cabinet in case there's a spill of some sort and this will catch some of the water. What sealant do you recommend? I heard some sort of epoxy but not sure which one.

Thanks

I would use rubber shower pan liner for a completely water proof lining. It should be available at any home improvement store and is usually sold by the foot/yard.

fiberglass is a great idea, can you recommend how to go about doing that? Was it difficult? What supplies did you need?

The stand bottom was the first time I ever worked with fiberglass. It was a pretty easy project. My 7 year old daughter even helped me and had a great time.

1) Apply the fiber glass outside! The fumes are very strong. We had a nice breeze and I kept my daughter up wind.
2) One can of fiberglass epoxy (Comes with epoxy and a tube of hardener). I got mine at home depot.
3) One package of fiberglass material. Also from home depot.
4) Mix the epoxy in a disposable container per the instructions.
5) Pour a little of the epoxy on the bottom of the stand then spread it out with a $.25 disposable paint brush. (two paint brushes required if your daughter helps)
6) Place the fiberglass sheet on top of the epoxy. Dab it down with the paintbrush.
7) Make some relief cuts in the sheet with some CHEAP scissors to fit it into the corners with minimal overlapping.

For maximum strength you want as little epoxy as possible to get the job done with no air bubbles under the fiberglass sheet. For what we are doing it doesn't matter. I probably used 3x the epoxy I needed and there was some slight air bubbles in the corners. This didn't matter at all.

I found this to be a great first time fiberglass project. And it sealed the bottom of the stand VERY well!
