sealing drilled tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
woot! I figured if I had air in there its not really air tight and if there no brick = no pressure= gaps. I am happy with the 2 side ones but the one in the middle I dont think is so great, the hole came up maybe 2-3mm below the roof support brace so I used a superman logo shaped glass and connected it to the roof and then over the hole but I believe the silicon holding the roof brace is what the top of the glass is resting on if that makes sense!

also how long should I wait for it to cure, I have fast curing silicon (aquarium safe)? 2-3 days? Or is it safe to remove the pressure and fill the actual hole on the other side with silicon? I dont mind waiting no fish for the tanks yet but the sooner they are on the stand the sooner I can start **trying** too fix the 6ft or use it as a snake tank :D

Thanks again for your help!

I just redid my 150 gallon tank(resilicone), waited 2 days, testfilled today, and it was cured and didnt leak. Imo there is no need to do both sides, but better safe then sorry. I would have done the hole at the same time as i did the glass, so that it all could cure together. Since silicone dont really sit to well on silicone(if you know what i mean).

As for the tank you are going to fix, a picture would tell more then a thousand words :)

So I flipped it today and took 2 of the bricks off (short story here) and well I 99% did do the holes I must of put so much silicon that when I pressed down all the excessive filled the hole so there was only very little to do! now one hole I over over over did and it was attached to the bed frame(i use bed frame planks to work on tanks ) and well I was an idiot and forgot silicon sticks to bricks so I had to pull one brick off I went in with a skinny razor and cut it off so hopefully my force did not tear the silicon up! I also patched up the sump in areas.

As for the broken tank I cant take pictures now all my women are out! I dont own a cord for my phone and it takes **** pictures anyways, should be able to take one tonight or tomorrow. I believe I understand better how to reattach the glass if i remove the whole panel, you just apply silicon to the existing glass then place the panel on top of the edges press hard let it cure then do the inside to give the curve effect correct? :)

One tank worked with the glass from a glazer now time to see if my cheapo style *cracked sheet* one works lol have to wait until the weekend too test as I cant lift it and all my males moved out long time ago haha last time we tried with the girls 2 gave up and just let go on a 6x2x2 >_<! I will take some pictures tomorrow promise!! thanks again for all the advice given really appericate it

Hey all

So they both work YAY! I wish I did spend the extra money to get the nice left over cut outs of glass as it looks nice and neat but no biggie. here are some pictures just encase anyone wants to have a look, I will be doing the 8FT as soon as I get help moving it i tried lifting it alone but felt as if id crack the glass or pull my back fall over etc not safe lol

in regards I went and to take a picture of the 6FT and :( the dam thing some how cracked in the base!!! maybe hail i guess or not being on a flat surface not sure what happened, I guess I can finally have a reason to have a snake apart from I love them! everyones nagging me to remove the tank so win/win :D not sure if I can keep snakes in glass, I think it should be fine maybe we have a reptile section here hmmm!!

I take it there is no way to fix a crack in the base of the tank going from front to back else I replace the whole sheet of glass?

Thanks everyone for the help saved me lots of money!

Is the tank that cracked pictured above? If so, I wonder how much flex those shelving unit have with that kind of weight on them.

nah the tanks not sitting on the unit, tanks outside under a gum tree on wood laying on unleveled cement XD! the shelving units are the one of the best over here used in factories (my work) and hold up too 2 tons per a level or up to 4 tons if connect together ( you can build massive rows), it has the best the best stand system I have ever seen at work we add massive 3ton dyes sitting on top of them and never had one issue :D! only down side is as they are one of the best your paying for one of the best!

The tank is like the one in the 1st picture behind the orange rack on the deep blue rack 6ft long 2x2 these are 7ftx20x20 or 18x18 not sure to be honest!
