I'm helping the neighbor get his kids set up with their first tank, and the girl wants "yellow fish".

Does anyone know of a site or book that lets you search fish species by colors?

Or, can you recommend some yellow freshwater fish that a middle schooler can take care of? The tank will be in the 20-40 gallon range.

Platies, or guppies... You can get both in yellow morphs. Otherwise a pair of Lambrichromis cichlids would also fit the bill or possible auratus. Both I believe are malawan african cichlids. One of my favorite personally are neolamp Lelupi, a tang shell dwelling african. a pair of any one of those would be fine in a 29gallon. All are hardy easy to keep ime.

They're only yellow in the vaguest way lol. One of the various "gold" barb species I think. Or Yellow labs...

Yeah, most of them are clear. Would probably need a yellow incandescent light to bring out the remotest yellow color. :D

i think for that tank size, a school of tiger barbs would be nice.
its orange/yellow-ish :]

I agree. I'd go with a 55 gal and do an African setup with Electric Yellow and Blues.

I was thinking that too...especially albino tigers...

OMG we're all fools....how about Gold gouramis? They're stupidly easy to keep.

YELLOW LONGHORN COWFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry... if you mean FW, electric yellow cichlids, or mabey some genetically modified fish...
