So I recently acquired a brand new fluval 306 for 40$.
I have a 75 gallon with a lone 8inch midevil. It has a xp3 running on it. One tray is foam pads the other two trays are bio media. I do small water changes twice a week.
My question is: will adding the 306 be useless? I was going to fill it biomedia and foam pads too. If I don't need it running I'll just store it. But if it will benefit my fish and the tank I will get it running.

Thanks!

I always like running pairs for insurance. More filtration is usually a good thing. Only negative is the power it takes to run.

I'm not too worried about the electricity bill. It's just one more filter. I just didn't want to run it if it wasn't going to be beneficial.

Technically speaking, as long as your water is staying clean then there's probably no reason to add a second filter. An xp3 should be able to handle a solo fish in a 75 no problem with normal tank husbandry.

Personally though I have to agree with JC; nothing wrong with having more filtration just incase you have a problem with one of your filters then you've already got a back up running. Not to mention, if you needed to set up a quarantine tank or just wanted to set up a second tank, then you'll already have a seeded filter ready for it.

throw it on there ... if you ever do need it ,:popcorn:you are already running it...

i guess ill get it running then haha. fill it with polyfiber and use it as a polishing filter.

i just want to use it because of the circumstances in which i got it. thanks guys.
