I recently purchased 2 Florida Gar, that brought an ich explosion to my tank. I have been treating the tank for a week with Kord Rid Ich+ and all of the other fish are now clear with the exception of the gar and 1 bichir. The bichir I think has a scrape wound, but I thought I would post a pic and get an opinion on him too. None of the bichirs ever showed signs of ich. Just my Oscars and jewel cichlids. I just want to make sure my ich diagnosis is correct and know I am treating the right disease. Any help is appreciated

Thanks Rick

Thanks for the replies. These gar are only 8" long so the spots so appear a lot larger in the pics. These are about the size of a pen head. The smaller fish had the typical white flakes all over them and cleared in a few days. Hopefully someone will know what this is. Meds are getting expensive. :) thanks again for the input.

Thanks I wondered if that bamboo would live. I found it really cheap so I may leave it and see how long it lasts.

Just last week I was at our LFS and the FL Gar that was there had the same thing. I spoke to someone and he said that when he lived in Florida, they would catch them like this and that the bumps were caused by an insect of sorts and would eventually fall off. He didn't have too much info, but it's strange that you just purchased these guys and we just had some here in Northern WI just like it. You might want to post this in the gar section. Lots of knowledge over there. All I can tell you is that so far, the gar that was in the tank at the store didn't pass any off to the other fish.

Id say fungus, maybe from high nitrates, test your water imo clean water will clear this up in a week!
