Could be fungus, but I wonder if it correlates to wild caught gars or not. The bumps that I saw were identical to these, but quite a few more. One of the employees had touched the gar earlier and said that they were hard bumps.
Just did some research and it seems to be Lymphocystis. This seems to have been popping up quite a bit lately with the FL gars. It's viral so there isn't much you can really do for the little guy but add some salt and raise the temp to 82-85. Typically the disease runs its course without harming the fish. One thing to note is that it can be transferred to other fish through physical contact, so QT is recommended. Just make sure to keep your water healthy and keep the stress low and all should go well!
