Although I don't agree with purposely severing the tail of a perfectly healthy fish but haven't you seen Doberman Pinchers with cut off tails and propped up ears?

I don't agree with cosmetic surgeries on pets but some of those do serve a purpose. Hunting dogs often have docked tails because they don't get painful burrs. And dew claw removal saves the dog from potentially ripping them off in the future. But if your dog is going to enjoy a comfortable life on your couch I don't support surgeries simply to uphold a breed standard.

Yes I have, and I find the practice of cropping ears equally abhorrent. If you look here you'll see the practice of cropping ears is actually banned in many countries, including this one thankfully. The arguement that it reduces ear infections is far from proven, and the fact that many dog breeds live long and healthy lives with big floppy ears shows that it isn't necessary.

baconmeupscotty is on the right track, our Vizsla has a docked tail and dew claws removed as they are very prone to being damaged when out in the forest hunting [or in my case mountain biking]. Trying to heal a split tail on an adult dog is a pretty big task and could involve surgery to have it "docked" if it doesn't heal. Our other dog (beagle X fox terrier) hasn't had his dew claws removed and broke one off when he rolled over and it got caught in a crack between the boards on our deck, having a minor procedure to remove them at a very young age certainly would have saved him a lot of pain that day!

There is no justification for mutilating animals simply to appease our warped sense of aesthetics.

thankfully, in Britain PFK has launched a campaign to stop fish surgery, including dying and mutilation. all u guys should try and launch a campaign by getting petstores to signpetitions that they wont sell any.

I have seen tailless Silver arowana where is appears to be a natural deformity, but I'm pretty sure that the asian ones (along with the likes of the love heart parrots, flowerhorns etc) are cut.

and many of them displayed and sold at aros competition .... there was one red its genuine tailless (the aro not for sale, its one of the farm icons) , but all the rest was cut off :( and it came from respectful farm

I would never do this to a fish and It is kinda of strange what people do with fish now a days.
