I am sure they can be quite the predator.... probably have to watch your cats and small dogs etc..

We've rented houseboats a few times. We never left the cat on the roof unattended for fear a eagle might mistake her for a rabbit.:) We were on the roof when my husband jumped into the water. We think Farah was chasing flying insects when she accidently went down the slide into the water. When my husband looked down, he saw her swimming in the water. She made it clear around to our boat and climbed up on the housing on top of the prop....I was more afraid of the eagles than the slide for her

very interesting info about them... and i am glad you cat was okay... i would worry about my pomerian too... she is about 5 pounds.. birds of pray are magnificient.. but yes are fearless killers too..i see the many hawks here .. flying above unsuspecting rodents etc.. they have such keen eye sight.. and that beak.. :WHOA:now to forget to mention those claws... :WHOA: but it is nice to see one raised to fly high at all these functions... just beautiful

There are several in my area. They are truly amazing. They did a big write up in the Daily News trying to educate people on not disturbing them.
Daily news in NY?

Here's an ongoing bald eagle story from Redding, California. In November 2007, Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) put a 3 - foot cone over a bald eagle nest which was very close to a bridge construction site. It was feared that the eagles if allowed, to nest there, would abandon any eaglets because of all the construction commotion going on.

The eagles were very persistent, and so was the public outcry against the cone, so finally the cone was removed. Less than a week later, the eagles were back in their nest. They were named Patriot and Liberty. They sucessfully raised two offspring--Conehead and Freedom.

This year, a web cam was placed above the nest. Patriot and Liberty came back to their nest. Liberty laid eggs on February 6, 9 and 13. The first eaglet egg could hatch at any time.

Here is the site for the web cam that is on during day light hours Pacific Time. Perhaps you'll get lucky and get to see an eaglet hatch!
