For some reason I think being green fingered goes with the territory of being in the aquarium hobby. I know a lot of us on here are keen gardeners too. But rather than post pics of your favourite plants you have bought from the garden centre, I thought it would make an interesting thread to see how many of us have attempted to grow something by ourselves, from scratch, ie seed.

Maybe you've just started, or maybe you grew something from seed a long time ago, and that young seedling is now a tree in your garden, or a large sprawling plant in your conservatory.

Not just houseplants or trees either, you can also share your experience of growing your own fruit or veg!

The only rules are that you have got to have grown it yourself from seed.

I'll get us started. A couple of weeks ago I attempted to germinate a mango seed. I've tried before but failed because you need warmth, which I never give in my previous attempts. This time I put the pot in my cricket farm enclosure where it is very humid, and it's sprouted!

If this thread picks up a bit of momentum we can even revisit it from time to time and use it as a grow out thread for our green fingered exploits. Here's my little mango tree!

I won't get any mangoes from it but I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
If I remember, Mangoes and Avacodo’s and it’s related species all take years to reach maturity. The orange tree in my backyard took years to be fully healthy, and produce fruit worth eating. Now look at this fruit ?

That's fantastic. You have a far better climate than me. I doubt very much my mango tree would even survive outside without some form of seasonal protection, let alone produce fruit as well.

But this is the whole idea behind the thread. People's different green fingered experiences irrespective of whether they succeeded or failed in their attempts to grow something a little exotic.

Along with some sweet pea and hanging basket favourites.
My wife is thrilled that our bedroom has again turned into a plant nursery………..honest!

I’ve seen a few geeen houses with bright pink lights around, do you grow yours under grow yours pink lights? Why?
They use red and blue lighting. But yes I grow under a mix of red, blue and white light. Similar to what I did for the plant wall a few years back.
