When setting up a 2nd tank, i no it is good to use a filter from the main tank inorder to get the beneficial bacteria. My question is, how long will the BB last?

I will set up a second tank and will cycle the water until all the cholrine is gone, and will add water from my main tank to the new tank every day or 2, and once the params are the same, I will throw on a seeded HOB from my main tank.

From there am I good to just throw the fish in? Or should I still wait a bit? If I do wait will the BB die without any fish in that tank?

Also let me know if i should be throwing the seeded HOB on before the params are the same as the main tank (right after the chlorine has been removed)

well when i fill the 2nd tank with tap water there will be chlorine in it. I want that gone before I start adding water from my main tank, because the chlorine will just kill any bacteria in my main tanks water.

yea that would give me water without cholrine butthen I am using buckets of water I aged for water tanks for my main tank. If I throw water strait in my tank from the tap, then it will have chlorine but with a bubbler and a filter, the cholrine will be gone within a day

Look, do it half by half..half tap water and half older tank water.

You get two tanks in the same condition, with the bonus of having performed a major water change in the first tank.

You then go and ( assuming your older tank is settled and "aged " ) and divide the filter material ( assuming you've had no diseases to speak of in the old tank ) between both filters ystems ( old and new / you replenish the empty space in both filter systems with new filter material ).

Wait till temp and ph is equal and you're ready to go...

done this system for years on end, and never had "new tank syndrome" or like problems.

if you're treating your water, then there's no need to age anything. the only thing you would need to let water sit for is for it to come to room temp. which can be skipped if you can adjust your tap water's temp like most people can.

but ok, here's what you do. put tap water into your second tank, condition it in the tank. it only needs maybe a couple minutes to be sure the chlorine is all changed up to harmless junk. then add water to that 2nd tank from your main tank. then replace the water in your main tank with whatever you have "aged" and whatnot. after the water is set, do your media thing.

JUst because you throw some conditioner in your water doesn't remove the cholrine within seconds. Maybe an hour or more assuming you have the water in the bucket circulating. But you can simply take the correct temp water from the tap, put conditioner then put it in the tank all within 5 min. the conditioner wont work that fast.
