Seeing double (argentea!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice! Argentea are one of my favorite Viejas. Have kept them a few times over the years and they've always been super aggressive toward each other! The only time I spawned them was through a divider. I remember my male had twice the freckling that the female had. He also had beautiful trailers on his dorsal. Good luck with them, that's a nice big pair!

I'll get some better photos tonight and you can tell me your thoughts on their sexes.

The aggression wasn't much straight out attacking, it was more just constant chasing that was stressing the new fish out. I'll try taking the divider out again in a few weeks once it's settled in more.

Man! I can't even find one of them around here..... And you have two. And not only 2 but 2 large beauties!

Best of luck with the spawn and if it doesn't work?? Ship me one! LOL:D

They look super together, I wish you didn't have to separate them. Have you thought about taking out your male for a while since he thinks the whole tank is his? Just until the other establishes itself.

I've moved everything around and there is a male umbee he doesn't pay any attention to, so I figure the same thing will happen no matter what.

Why not just vent them?

Because I'm pretty bad at venting. It's been tried and could be about as effective as flipping a coin.

Man, I don't know, it looks like two males there. It seems to me that the males have more of a purple/ lavender hue thoughout their body where the females seems to have a duller coloraton on the sides. Both sexes have the apprant coloration at the top of the body towards the dorsel fin. Other than venting them under ideal lighting this has been the best way to identify them. Out of the Argentea in my tank the large male have spawned with at different occasions at least three females and the other two are substancially smaller (I think those are possible males)

That would be unfortunate. Can you post some photos showing what you mean?
