okk heres the deal , my gold saums completely changed in a matter of days , i believe its cause they are ready to mate or there jus hitting puberty or someshing lol but in two days (no exageration) my gs (which i believe is male) grew that ugly bump on his head and became really agressive towards everyone in the tank(two other gold saums and two common plecos in a 55 gallon) and my other my gs(which i believe is female) went from being the tank bully to only being aggressive to defend herself , and now bothh of those gs's bully my little gs(which i have no idea wat sex that is) and the male gs is always fighting wit the female and rubbin up against her , especially wen the lights are off, also they are takin time out their busy schedule to redecorate their tank by moving plant and diggin a whole in the gravel , and also the male has a twich like like he got effn tourets syndrome or somethin it kinda scares me cus its so weird he jus spazzes out every couple seconds like hes bein electricuted

i guess the point of this essay i jus wrote(lol) was too share my confusion wit u guys and get any suggestions on sexing these fishes cus im pretty sure thats wats goin on , and also to ask the question about the retarded twich my male gs got , is that normal ???? and wat about the plecos ?? will they eat the eggs , cus those bastards eat everything from spirulina discs to the gs's freeze dried food and wat about the little gs should i take him out cus the couple is givin him a good beating wen there not beatin up each other

please feel free to comment about ur experience wit mating gs' or any other similar cichlid

suggestions and advise would be greatly appreciated , thanks :)

heres some pics tell me wat u think . . .

sounds like mating behaviour to me. making a nest in the gravel, getting aggressive and the larger nuchal hump. he is discovering he is the dominant male and the hump will get bigger (probably).
your other gold saums will be in for a beating if not get killed once eggs get laid. i think you should relocate them. all this is what ive read since i have had a gold saum so it may or may not be accurate.

the males hump is not ugly lol it actually looks nice IMO.

i think you have a pair there TBH i think that you will need to remove the other GS or he will be killed as for the pleco's i think they might have a go at eating the eggs if there are any. How big are the plecos?? what type??

i think the "spazzy" thing that you are on about could be him trying to show off to the female (trying to impress her) if he is shaking his body and tail whipping chasing ramming and biting these are all signs of breeding also lip locking testing each other out.

if you are trying to breed them and you want to keep the fry and grow them up and so on u may want to remove the pleco's because they are always a threat to the eggs/fry although it may take the pair a few attempts to get it right because it will be there first time.

thanks for the comments

the plecos are common and about 2.5-3 inches long i think they would be a threat being that they actually attack myg.saums at time so they probably won be able to protect their eggs , as soon as i get a place for them they will be remove along with the stray g.saum , those freakin tanks are expensive tho it could be a while lol for now tho maybe a divider ??? wat do yu guys think ???

and yes the bump is a lil unatractive as well as intimidating lol i love my fishes tho i think the female is a real beauty

the pleco's shouldnt be too much bother at that size, how big is the tank??? i wouldnt divide a tank any less than 55G.

you havent lived until u seen greenterra's GS!

That's breeding behavior bro.

yeah that's breeding behavior. that "hump" is actually what brings up the price of your green terror if you were to ever sell it. btw, if you want to bring out the color and make your green terrors look a lot better than they are already try using some dark gravel. the darker the better. i use black sand and my male gt is one hell of a beauty.

I wouldn't worry about the pleco's, Male GS usually are too agressive with females, so, the plecos could be a distraction for him. Make sure to have clean water and that there is a lot of rocks and hidding places for them.
