would putting a piece of live rock in a aquaclear 110 instead of the normal media have any positive effect.

I would think that it is such a small ammount it would not help much.

The original media that comes with the aqua clear has alot more surface are the live rock. The live rock is beneficial in a sump or refugium because it provides homes for the pods and other micro-organisms.

I would go with the standard media.

A lot of people with nano reefs use an AC110 as a 'fuge with liverock and cheato in them. They also usually modify the impellor to reduce flow.

I believe you don't have to modify the impellor, the intake is controllable. you do have to do something to keep the sand out of the impellor though, but plus is you can by compact lighting for like 12 bucks for that small fuge. AC's are very helpful.

just wondering, thanks guys.
