What the ****! How is it these illegal fish were seized and then given to a pet shop? And how is it that the shop is now being allowed to SELL the ILLEGAL fish to the rightfull owner? this is a case that's resoloution requires use of a shot gun and some boots for kicking down a door. IMHO

The koi were seized in Maine where they're illegal and given to a pet shop in New Hampshire where they're legal.

awhile ago I heard a LFS worker near me say that Koi were Illeagal here in MA. But ive seen them in various other LFSs around here.

Just seems wrong that they took his fish, Now Ill only go to maine to buy guns. :headbang2

Ahh Missed that part. I was too mad at the fact they got took in the first place. But the question still remains Why did the *** take and give them to a pet shop instead of destroying the fish as they usually are supose to. Seems like alot of effort to transport the fish to another state and to single out one pet shop. Seems to me like theres a little shadey buisness arrangement between that *** rep and that pet store where they wound up. Seems to me that at that point the pet store would be accepting stolen property. but I guess if its taken by the goverment they don't consider it stolen but Seized. same diff tho.

They knew this event would be big in the media. F&G reported that they transported them to a pet shop to give the owner the opportunity to buy them back and relocate them to a koi-friendly state. Destroying them would have made the department look like sadistic ghouls in the media's eye.

Weird story, a few things don't add up: "The wardens took the fish to a pet shop in New Hampshire, which agreed to sell them back to Ly."

How can they do that when, "Maine outlawed the importation and possession of koi"?? could the shop not get done for selling them to someone who shouldn't keep them.

And another point, 12-14" in 15 years is very poor growth on Koi, an inch a year is incredibly slow or the fish are stunted.

Still I feel bad that he had his fish taken away. Aguy had the same kind of thing happen in the UK - after applying for a licence to keep his Myxocyprinus legally the government popped round an killed them! http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=934

F&G is lucky there were no Mongrol Koi in the tank. There the most dangerous of all goldfish.

Ly has been charged with importing freshwater fish without a permit and faces a possible $10,000 fine

I understand charging for possession, but how do they charge for something that wasn't illegal when he did it(importing)?!:irked:

Wow. That sux ass. Not like it would make much of a differance if they have carp in Maine. When i went to Lake Havasu AZ 2weeks ago I actually saw a 16-18" koi in with a bunch of carp bigger and smaller then it and didnt seem that they were "fighting for reasources" The koi stood out lke a sore thumb. It was white with sum black on its head and everyother carp was Black or Dark Brown.
