Anyone have experience with the stuff. Currently in the process of my 10x4 plywood build and want to get the concrete slab level. Plan to put the tank on cinder blocks so need to start with a level surface.

That said I had to remove old tiles, leaving behind old adhesive. I know that SLC needs to adhere to the concrete so that has to come up. Talk about a mess! Hours and hours with a scraper and still much more to go. At this point all that is left is residual staining of the adhesive. Is this ok to pour over?

Then I had another thought. Could I pour the SLC over a thin plastic sheet. This would do two things: save my hands and also allow me to remove at a later point if I ever had to.

Iv used it don’t put it on plastic as it cures it will shrink and pull up and crack. Also when mixing it add a tiny bit more water than the bag calls for. This will make it flow well and u will get a better finished surface

Thanks. I really didn't think the plastic idea would work. What are your thoughts on the slab. Keep scraping or does it look ok to pour?

I would make sure you get all the adhesive off. You can try floor strippers from HD or if you have an angle grinder get one of these. The concrete is supposto be roughted up and then a primer applied. After that you can apply the leveler.

Appreciate the help, although not the answer i was looking for, lol. Decided I'd save my hands and cut down on the dust with a dustless attachment for my angle grinder.

Make a level form and pour a pad. Regular concrete is way cheaper.

You could always use concrete panel packers, I’m sure your floors not that far out of whack there rated to 20 tonne and come in heaps of thicknesses.

I have used self leveling cement before and like stated I had to mix mine thinner than recommended to get it to self level well. I used the SLC over plywood subfloor and a bit of vibration helped it level... I don't know how you would vibrate a concrete sub-floor though?

Underlayment primer will make a very strong bond between the self leveling cement and your existing concrete floor in its current condition. I predict the SLC will be very difficult to remove from the concrete floor. The SLC will be PLENTY strong enough! ...no need to look for something else.
