Self-Sustaining Food Sources

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you are talking about a food source that actually lives and breeds in the same tank as the rays, i would do guppies with a lot of thick floating plants

Any chance the tank has a sump?

In fact, each of the 523 gallon tanks have their own in-tank sump. So, yes, the tanks will have sumps.

I had a colony of guppies in the sump of my ray tank for over a year.. just doesnt do much nutritionally and never saw em really in the tank. Just the few dozen in the sump all the time.

severum1 has the closest to 100% self sustained in his ponds in green house... as i was involved with a attempt at raising HQ worms shrimps fish etc for feeding to rays it requires a rediculous amount of work to get large enough numbers to self sustain... there is nothing really you can add to the tank with them that will breed crazy enough to sustain itself... maybe that 125 could work out better for raising crayfish on a hq pellet then offer them once or twice a week... makes for a great feeding time watching them chase/hunt and eat them..

having a renewable food source in the same tank as the rays will be extremely difficult, unless u provided i fine net between the two specimen.

i have an earth worm farm in my shed and a convict breeding tank. so far i have gotten about 200 earth worms and about 100 successful large convict fry. it will be feeding time soon!:drool::drool::drool:

p.s. ill post pics of the 2 food resources at request.

how many guppies do you think it would take in a seperate tank to get a consistant 20 guppy snacks a week? (just as a little treat for my other tank
