If you live in NY you can catch them for free

Not only was your post unproductive to my thread, but its also completely inaccurate.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation states that the only Sunfish found in Long Island, and the 5 Boroughs are as stated (Bluegill, Pumpkinseed).
Now Longear Sunfish are not Pumpkinseed nor Bluegill.
Also it is illegal to keep any gamefish in the 5 Boroughs. It is catch and release only. Also, catch and release is highly enforced out in Long Island with size limits as well as the gamefish that can be kept. So I think my $10.00 Longear Sunfish is a lot cheaper than $1000 dollar fine from the DEC.
So no, you cant just catch them for free in Long Island or the 5 Boroughs.
Why? because they dont exist in Long Island or the 5 Boroughs.
If anyone is interested in these Longears, let me know, they are pretty much just overcrowding my tank right now.
They eat pellets and flake food.
