Selling FH as Trimacs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I almost bought from this dealer! But was educated about it first which saved me, this same dealer sells mayans as red terrors. And god knows what else is f'd up.

Blue speckles = not a good sign. Looks flowerhornish to me.

Hooray for it not being limited to hybrids.

Nice try japes

Number of pearls (black spots) is not diffinative as many pure trimacs have more than 3 (look at darthodo's avatar, I know it is a trimac, he got it from me) But the blue spots on an 1 1/2" fish does not look good to me, at that size a trimac is a little grey fish, but that is just my opinion and I do not know where he got these fish and can not condem the seller. Regardless of what else he sells, this is irresponsible fishkeeping. Just so happens that like many irresponsible fish keepers, he's trying to pawn off hybrids as legitimate species.

Nice attitude though. Next time you have a problem with something I say, send me a PM instead of trying to create an arguement based on other peoples comments.

What's the difference between misidentifying a "pure" fish and misidentifying a hybrid fish? In your first post you implied that it's only hybrids that are misidentified. Are you changing your tune?

Edit: I'm not creating an argument, I'm creating discussion. The tone was set by your original post in this thread.

Maybe it's a difference of location. We have relatively decent lines over here in Australia and it's much more of a concern to the hobby given our harsh limits on fish imports. We have Flowerhorns being sold over here as Trimacs and I'm highly doubtful that there are any true ones available in Australia.

This ultimately stems back to the presence of Flowerhorns, as well as poor identification. I'm not changing my tone at all, I'll always be against hybrids, but pulling me up for a legitimate comment made prior to other evidence regarding the sale of mislabled natural species and trying to pick apart my statement seems a little direct to me; especially given the fact that a very similar comment was made only two replies before mine.

What would you have had me say? "Hooray for irresponsible ALL TYPES OF FISH keeping."?
