do you use a reverse osmosis for drinking water also? if you dont it tastes better than spring water, i filled my 1 gallon aquarium with reverse osmosis water and its filtered very very well. but the problem is, is that there is only one faucet and it would take weeks to fill a 600 gallon tank. lol

What's the rest of the tank room look like? Do you have another thread? Web site?
Have you thought about a flow regulator rather than a sprinkler system timer?
This way you can have a constant water change at slower rate (like 2gph). This will cause even less of an instant temp change (or none).
2gph * 168 hours per week = 336 gal per week 58% per week
I might go with
1gph * 168 hours per week = 168 gal per week 28% per week

that is what I am going to do with my 180.. to change 70-80 gallons a week constantly and gradually.
Just re-did my filtration so that my Ultima II and mechanical filter is outside my fishroom for easy maintenance. I removed my sock filters from my sump because I added a cartridge filter at the end of my Ultima II. So now I just back flush for most of the waste and rinse out the cartridge every other month.

I also changed my manual water timer to an automatic one. Works great and can run manually or set automatically.
Also, before the water runs from the tap to the pref-filter it runs through this Carbon Tank before it enters my tank.
