I'm planning on setting up my first tank. I don't own a tank myself but my brother has a 3 foot and 6 foot tank. Only the 3 foot is in use at the moment which I helped him setup.
Currently it has 2 bolivian butterfly, 7 neon tetra, 4 bristlenose catfish, 4 clown loaches, 3 three spot gourami. We used to have 4 discus in there but unfortunately due to us not really knowing what we were doing they died when we did 2 big water changes in the space of 2 days. Made the stupid mistake of cleaning everything in the tank with tap water including the filters. My daughters tank has 6 guppy, 1 molly and 1 bristlenose catfish.
I'm normally the one who is doing all of the water changes on the tanks so I'm learning a lot from these setups for myself.

My question is this, I'm planning on buying a 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 tank with sump weir setup and a canister filter. I'm planning on getting an asian arowana (either red or gold) 2 pleco and possibly 1 clown knife fish. Would the tank size be able to accommodate all of these guys without any issues or is the tank too small for all of them?

sounds fine to me

might want to watch that CK ive heard that they can cause trouble when with arows but then ive also heard great things with arows and CK

anyway good luck
:D

Bigger is better with larger fish. 8x4x4 or 8x3x3 would be very good.

yes true
but for a single asian i say that would be good enough

Would you like good enough or plenty of space when it comes to your home? I notice fish in larger tanks not doing the circle pace, instead swimming more random.

I could get a larger tank. But right now I'm just pricing tanks and 6x2.5x2.5 kind of hit's a happy spot for me. Not overly large but is still able to house some nice large fish without it taking up all of the space in the living room.

I was also wondering how some people keep the water in their tanks so clear. My brothers tank is not bad and I'm doing around 15% water changes each week on it. But it's still starting to take on a yellow colour to the water

Are arowana's really difficult to look after?
What about the other fish? The pleco and clown knife?

the asian arowana is a very easy fish to keep, you only have to keep the water very clean (water changes and good filtration). and feed good foods like market prawns and superworms...

pleco can live in a bucket, so so problem there...

knife is about the same as the arowana maybe even a bit esyer;)

go for it;)
