Senegal Bichir & Delhezi Bichir as tankmates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
120g is good for some bichirs in there, but forget the pleco, no matter what. Should algae appears in your tank, then you have to clean it, as we all do. Have a look at stickies for information on bichir size. There are lots of bichirs types, but be sure not to overstock the tank.

Forget the pleco, that feeding them so they will not suck on the slime coat is.. bs. They will sneak some slime coat from the bichir eventually no matter how fat and happy they seem to be. I used to keep a couple bristlenose a while ago, but no matter what they couldn't resist the temptation, eventually the bichirs would get the blotchy look on them. Those members have not kept them together long enough if you ask me. Another problem is aggression, some plecos can be pretty pushy towards other bottom dwellers, even the little bristlenose. Bichirs are peaceful, besides the occasional ornate from the many species I have kept.

at the end of the day just don't get a pleco, it's that easy

The otos are peaceful but will become lunch soon enough.

Forget about the Chinese Algae eater, they are VERY aggressive when they get a little bigger.

As previously stated, if you have algae in your tank, there's an underlying problem, probably due to insufficient maintenance. You can use polyfill (sold as pillow stuffing @ Walmart) or fiilter floss daily/weekly to remove any algae that may accumulate, but algae generally indicates high nitrAte levels, and that means you need to bump up your water changes/change schedule.

I haven't tried mixing bichirs but from what I hear it usually works but can be hit or miss. I have two Ornates in a 125 with a large Royal pleco though and have had no problems there over the last year. The Bichir's did gang up on a previous smaller pleco previous to that though.
