Well this is my first post and will let you know I have always had at least one aquarium since I can remember so I am not new to having a freshwater aquarium, but I am glad I found this forum. Right now I have a 30gal community tank and a 55gal that has a 5" dinosaur eel and a 12" plecostomus. I just got rid of my oscar that was in the 55 and I am now trying to figure out what kind of new tank mates I can put in that will work well with the senegal bircher. Thanks

more small bichirs :)

i would advise you either watch the pleco very closely or get rid of it as they like to suck the slime coat off bichirs and will get too big for your 55. if you have a big algae problem, get a flagtail. they suck slime coat, too, but not like plecos do.

It seems the plecostomus could not care less about the bircher, I have had the plecostomus for 6 years now and I have never seen it try to suck on any of my big oscars. I thought it was the otocinclus that you needed to watch out for them going after the slim coat.

they don't all do it and sounds like yours won't, but they can deteriorate a fish very fast and if you end up getting expensive fish, a common pleco just isn't worth it to me. they're not the algae eating machines they're made out to be, anyway. if it's worth the risk to you, then go for it.

What do you all think about a few giant danios and a couple Tinfoil Barbs. Do you think a Jack Dempsy would be ok? I am really just throwing out a few other types of fish that I would like to see what you guys think.

i have kept senegals with blood parrot, angel fish, african butterfly, needle fish, bala sharks, tinfoil shark, and pleco successfully(this was not all at the same time)
failed attempts were aggressive african chichlids, gold gouramis, and an algae eater.

What do you think about this, my current senegal bircher, a ropefish, a Armoured bichir, and a Jack Dempsey. Do you think that will work?
