Well I was reading a different thread and thought an African setup would be cool, so I just got a Leopard Ctenopoma and an African Knife. I am still looking for a Butterfly Fish though, I think I might stop with that then.
Well I went out for awhile tonight and was a little worried about the Leopard Ctenopoma and the senegal because the ctenopma is only a little over 2" and the sengal is closer to 6", but when I came home all three fish were sharing the same cave thing. The African Knife is about 5" and is very active, for that matter the ctenpoma is really active too. They all seem to like each other. So far I would call it a success, I just need to find a butterfly fish now to complete my African community.
I will try to get some pics tonight, but my knife fish is almost always hiding. When I put the knife fish in he was the star of the tank for the first two days then he found a good hiding space and disappeared. I hope he will be big enough soon that he cant keep hiding inside this rock/decoration thing, than I will be able to watch him again.
Knives are usually hidden as they are ambush preds. The Leopard leaf will do the same. Giant Danios should be fine with a sen as long as you get them big and make sure they are well acclimated to your water before releasing them. They will usually get eaten right away as they tend to lay on the bottom due to stress and move too slow to get away from the swimming stomachs we all love. Larger Kribs and Steatocranus cichlids should work as well.
