I just got mine 2-Days ago from P-mart for $7.00 lol about 3.5" long lol he is ASOME He will eventyaly go into a 120 i think not sure tho mite stay in the 50Breeder
Thats wild! Mabye it is a Canada thing. Petsmart used to sell ornates (years ago) for about 40 bucks...are you sure you dont have an ornate?
pretty sure I will try to put pics on my profile when I can , he has light grey scales and kinda a light peach colour to his fins he also has black dots here and there and four on his head that kinda would form a perfect square if you played connect the dots lol
it was for sale under the name dinosaur eel so I'm pretty sure it's a senegalus.
since I got him (sunday) I have noticed how good he is at smelling food right when it hits the water , but the shrimp pellets i'm feeding him seem to break apart to quickly and cloud the water, should i just do more water changes or should I switch to a different pellet food ( I'm to much of a baby to feed it live foods :s) he's in a 10 gal for the time being (he's only a few inches) and the tank seems to get cloudy really fast from these little bits of food. also I am saving up for a 55 gal which might be possible for me to get in may, he will be alright in there till then right? hes about 5 inches and is the only fish in the tank.

I feed mine hikari floating pellets and shrimp, works very well for water quality and they love them

For frozen foods, I feed:
Brine shrimp, Beefheart, Bloodworms, Mysis shrimp, Krill & Silversides (Frozen Minnow looking fish).
For pellets: Hikari Sinking Carnivorous Pellets & HBH Cichlid Attack!
Sometimes I also feed Tetra Tropical Granules and Tetramin Variety Wafers(meant for the Cories & Angelfish but eaten by all).

my fish seem to like them better than omega one shrimp pellets, but the shrimp pellets have better ingredients. the hikari are softer, but stay together pretty well, too, but you can see the water clouding a little when they sink.
Yes the Hikari have all the protein and vitamins they need. Elimates the need to feed live foods. Honest.
