The better option is to go get sinking pellets, but a variety of food is always going to be best. Sinking pellets, tilapia, shrimp, worms, etc.

+1 on algae wafers mine will occasionally snag a few bites. i mainly feed bloodworms and mysis shrimp. but mine are only 3.5 - 4".
My bichirs have never eaten flakes. Frozen bloodworms, frozen zooplankton, the high-protein sinking carnivore (catfish) pellets, and I like to chunk up frozen silversides. I de-spine them, and gut them and throw in just the meat. That is their favorite, and mine are fat as hell!!
