If fed properly, I'd say the senegal has one of the highest growth rates. They have a big growing curve though, growing VERY quickly from 3-7'' and then it tapers off dramatically. I just traded in my two senegals - I'd had them for over 3 years. It took them maybe all of 3 months to go from 3'' to 6'', then all the rest of the time to get to 10''. They had another 2'' to go before adulthood, and I'd imagine it would take them another 3 years to reach that length.
I've kept a pair of ropes in a 29g and they were perfectly happy. As long as you don't have too many other fish in there with them, they should be fine. Only issues I had with my pair was that they would continually swim up into the HOB filter, knock the plastic lid off, and get loose. But hey, that's a ropefish for you
