ok i have plenty of ideas for live food for my senegal, but i happen to have mine in a community tank, which means i need to find a live food source that is slower than my tetras, and zebra danio's. I've tried ghost shrimp, but my senegal much prefers fish over shrimp. So i pretty much need to find a fish thats slower than a zebra danio, and not too big to not fit in my 4"-5" senegals mouth, any suggestions?

mealworms is what i feed mines and blood/black worms

Most of the smaller fish are pretty similar in speed, unless you plan on getting expensive feeders (think neon tetras and glow light tetras). I would move out the bichir or the danios, unless you don't mind them being snacked on, because they will be food sooner or later (most likely sooner) no matter how many other feeders you put in.

not a good idea to be in a communtity tank unless you want them eaten cause the senegal will get them eventually but mealworms and rosy minnows are good.

What I've been thinking of doing are keeping a community of easily bred cichlids in a separate tank. Mollies or platies work too - it's near impossible to get them to stop breeding.

Not to sound like a broken record, but your bigger problem is that your community tank will probably be a species tank within 6 months unless you make some changes.

i actually have a pair of guppies in a 5 gallon, and am waiting for them to breed, so far no babies in like a month and a half, should i attempt platies?

Rearing life food is more trouble than it's worth and you will need quite a few batches or breeding colonies setup to keep up the supply you would need.

Why not just feed it shrimp, night crawler, pellets, etc..?

why are you wanting to feed live?

Hi,feeding polys foods other than live fishes will give you more advantages(,money, time, effort and work)than disadvantages.
